Slava Voynov Pleads No Contest to Domestic Violence
Just days prior to his scheduled trial for allegedly punching and kicking his wife, and shoving her into a television at their Redondo Beach home, Los Angeles Kings defenseman Slava Voynov pleaded no contest to the charges. This means that the hockey player will be convicted of a misdemeanor and will serve 90 days in jail. All state convictions can result in deportation, but decisions on visas and travel are up to the Department of Homeland Security. Along with the 90 days in jail, Voynov will also be on probation for the next three years. For his probation, he will have to complete a 52-session domestic violence counseling program, pay a $700 fine, and attend eight hours of community service. If he violates his probation in any way, then he will have to spend at least a year in prison. The Kings have not released a statement on whether Voynov will continue to play for the Hockey franchise after he has served his jail sentence, but it looks as if they will allow him to play.
